This piece was inspired by survivors of domestic violence. I paint from a place of truth, and this image represents the fear, silence, and control that so many victims endure. The hand covering the girl’s mouth is more than just a physical act—it’s symbolic of the oppression, the stolen voices, and the struggle to be heard. The figure in the shadows represents abusers who hide behind intimidation and manipulation, thriving in secrecy. This painting is my way of reclaiming my voice, my power, and my story.

I hope this painting evokes a visceral reaction—one that sparks awareness, empathy, and a conversation about the realities of domestic violence. I want survivors to see this and know they are not alone, that their pain is real and valid, but also that they have the strength to break free. I want those who have never experienced abuse to feel the weight of silence, to understand how fear controls and isolates. But most importantly, I want this piece to serve as a reminder that no one should ever be silenced.

I chose this subject because it is my truth, and I refuse to let it stay in the shadows. The darkness in the painting reflects the isolation of abuse, while the girl's terrified expression captures the raw emotion of living in fear. The hidden figure symbolizes how abuse often operates—out of sight but always present. The medium of painting allows me to channel my pain into something tangible, something that speaks louder than words ever could.
